One of the eighty grand affairs at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, July 8-16, 2011.
Late Night at the Georgian Lounge* with
Thom Swift & the El Caminos (HFX)

After spending over 15 years with acclaimed blues-jazz trio Hot Toddy, Thom Swift has stepped out into the spotlight. His solo work is marked first and foremost by his lyrical content. With a gritty voice and intricate fretwork, Swift delivers time-worn tales of one way trains, his trusty work boots and tales of love gone wrong. Heavy rotation on CBC radio has made him a household name across the nation, filling living rooms and kitchens with his troubadour approach to the working man’s blues. It’s not all heartache and sadness though; it’s Swift’s abil- ity to offer solace and comfort through his songs that have made him such a sought after artist. Surrounding himself with some of Atlantic Canada’s finest roots players, including J.P. Cormier, Mat Andersen and Brian Bourne, has allowed him to explore and express the full spectrum of emotions found in the blues.
